 I explained it before, but I guess the post didn’t go through.  

 This is Lupe Fiasco, who I am using to demonstrate how people easily whitewash black and white photos.

The top left is the original image as I found it.
Below that is the desaturation/BW filter at default. Both give the same results.

 To the top right is how a photo is whitewashed by increasing the values of the red and yellow channels above default. There are also blue, green, cyan and magenta channels. Those I didn’t touch. That is why Lupe’s shadows in his shirt are still largely the same. As you can see, Lupe Fiasco appears significantly lighter than he usually is.

 The vignette below that one is how one can darken skin by lowering the red and yellow channels below default. 

As you can see, it takes a couple sliders to whitewash, nothing more. The reason Rihanna was lighter than usual while the assumed white fellow beside her stayed his particular value (how dark or light something is) is because one can use masking, which lets you paint out certain areas so that they aren’t touched while you’re working on one aspect of an image.

There you go. Always be vigilant in your thinking and perception; People have been editing pictures for decades, except back then they used dodging among other things. There are always ways. You can choose to pretend this isn’t happening, and you’d be naive… and a fool.

I’ve seen the very same people throw fits over the way photoshop is used to distort people’s bodies slim people down actually argue that photos- in particular b&w photos- are hard to whitewash or even don’t get whitewashed

White fat activists- photoshop is used to fuck with the way people look. It is used to change people into the “ideal”.

Yes, this is about thinness being upheld. It’s also about Whiteness being upheld.

Decry whitewashing. It’s fucking evil.

Also, I ended up not selling all the prints at the festival I made them for. So, I’m selling the extras on Etsy. I may make it a permanent print, but I haven’t decided.
